Alexandros Tanzanakis
Dr. Alexandros Tanzanakis
I am a Postdoctoral Researcher and Head of the Health Data Science Group at the Machine Learning and Data Analytics (MaD) Lab of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
I hold a 5-year Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering with the highest honors from the Technical University of Crete, Greece and a Ph.D. in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. For my Ph.D. at ETH Zurich, I have developed novel, theoretically rigorous, reinforcement learning algorithms for data-driven control of complex discrete-time nonlinear systems. In addition to critical theoretical advancements, highly important biomedical applications were considered towards the design of high-performance, clinically safe, fully-automated, personalized artificial pancreas systems for patients diagnosed with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
My research interests include advanced topics in learning-based control theory, machine learning and predictive analytics, game theory and multiagent systems, as well as applications on personalized medicine with a strong focus on the design of highly scalable predictive models (e.g., virtual twins), intelligent clinical decision support systems and closed-loop therapeutical systems.
