Artificial Intelligence in Medicine
The AI in Medicine group is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of machine learning and clinical medicine. Through the Center for AI in Medicine, we are establishing collaborations with partners at University Hospital Erlangen and beyond, to tackle real-world medical challenges.
Our focus is on building state-of-the-art machine learning methods that can be integrated into clinical practice to make a tangible impact on medical practice and research. Current projects include disease diagnosis, patient state classification, and patient monitoring.
A key area of our research explores how recent breakthroughs in large language models (LLMs) and transformer-based medical foundation models can improve performance in complex medical tasks, especially in scenarios with limited clinical data. Our work spans a wide range of data types, including tabular data, biosignals, medical and biomedical images, and multimodal datasets. We aim to implement concrete AI-based solutions for clinical environments.
